East Haven vs. North Branford
Score
6 – 39
It was another tough day
on the grid iron. Ready to even the season with a win this week, East Haven couldn’t pull it together
for a win against North Branford. Coming out strong, North Branford quickly scored which deflated
the spirit of the Easties. Before the end of the first half of play, the Easties were able
to slow down North Branford with the hopes of pulling it together for the second half. Unfortunately, that
was not meant to be. The game ended with another one going in the “L” column. With
a buy this coming weekend, the Easties have the next two weeks to regroup and shake out the cob webs to come strong and play
at home against their next opponent, Guilford.
Game
1 Re-cap
The East Haven Grade 7 Youth
Football team opened their new season against the Madison Tigers. Yes, a difficult opponent but
the Easties went to Strong Field ready for their first game.
AJ Consiglio made his debut at quarterback. He was joined by several new players to the league;
Caleb Baldino, Michael D’Onofrio, Michael LaPointe, Justin Zinck, Danny Petr, Zack Vineyard and Nick Carbone.
Not so new but coming from taking a year off is Colby Hartman. Needless to say, this first game
was an eye-opener for the new guys. But there to support them and the entire team were “veteran”
the players: Zack Cofrancesco, Salvatore Luzzi, Michael D’Angelo, John Kikosicki, Charlie Comstock,
Chris Maiorano, Colton Kopcik, Jakob Cronk, Rich Thomas, Joey Cima, and Jeff Capone.
The Easties won the coin toss. As the first offense took
the field, you could feel the adrenalin in the air. This was it. The past four weeks
of practice was about to be tested for the first time. And it was a hard test. Working
through their initial jitters, the Easties did not have a successful first half. The running game was slow
to start facing a strong defense from Madison. Consiglio made several pass attempts some successful for
short yard but the best came towards the end of the game when he completed a pass to Baldino for a touchdown!!!!
Although the Easties did not
come away with a win, they came away with having their skills tested and the bar raised for the rest of the season.
They now have first hand experience with the HEART and PERSEVERANCE that is required to play this unique game we call
football as Head Coach Sal Luzzi and his assistant coaches have been trying to instill in all the players. The
team will continue to develop their skills and ready themselves for their next opponents.
Cheers to a great season of football!!!
