GAME #7 Re-Cap

EAST HAVEN DEFEATED GUILFORD 25-0

On Sunday, October 18th at East Haven, an old-fashioned Nor'easter greeted the players as they entered the expansive confines of Crisafi Field.  A pouring rain, steady wind, and cold temperature would not deter the Easties from closing out the regular season with a win.  East Haven squared off against Guilford.  Following the opening kickoff, Guilford had a short run on 1st down at mid-field.  On 2nd down, Guilford ran into Easties territory all the way to the 25 yd line.  East Haven's D then dug in as Giuseppe Minichino, Frank Longley, Jack Scalesse and Nico Ragaini recorded key tackles on the next few downs.  On a 3rd down deep in Easties terrritory, Corey Millhouse broke up a pass and on 4th and long, Ragaini read the 'QB Boot' and had a tackle for a loss.

The Yellowjackets O took over possession on their own 23 yd line.  Ragaini took the 1st down handoff and ran into Guilford territory - 43 yd line.  Following three Scalesse runs and one Millhouse run, The Easties were at Guilford's 26 yd line.  Ragaini took a 3rd down handoff to the 15 yd line for a 1st down.  Scalesse then burst up the middle for a 15 yd TD run (extra point was no good).  Nick Kraszewski then executed a fantastic on-side kick resulting in a fumble recovery by Scalesse at Guilford's 47 yd line.  The trio of Ragaini, Millhouse, and Scalesse (R M S) each had a run to bring the ball to the 33 yd line.  On 2nd down at the 33 yd line, Ragaini sprinted up the middle for a TD (extra point was no good).

Following the kick, Guilford took over possession on the Easties 46 yd line.  Guilford was moving the ball on the ground.  Ragaini and Joey Piscitelli had some key tackles to keep Guilford out of the end zone.  With the ball deep in the Easties territory, Guilford fumbled and Frank Longley pounced on the ball.  The Easties drive began on their 8 yd line.  The RMS Trio had productive runs to bring the ball to the Guilford 37.  On 2nd down, Sam Loda rolled right and hit Justin Keish with a 12 yd pass.  As Keish was hit and going down, he pitched the ball back to a cutting Ragaini who ran for another 13 yds.  On 1st down, Ragaini ran around left end for a TD (extra point was no good).    Following the kick, Guilford took over possession, but not for long, as they fumbled on 1st down and Jimmy Christian recovered on Guilford's 42 yd line.  Halftime followed a few plays later.  At the half, East Haven was winning 18-0.

East Haven had the ball to start the 2nd half.  Following four runs by Scalesse (4yds, 6yds, 4yds, and 7yds) and one run by Millhouse (14 yds), the Easties were at Guilford's 7 yd line and poised for another score.  Unfortunately, a 2nd down fumble ended the promising drive.  Guilford ran the ball on 1st down for a short gain.  On 2nd down, Guilford fumbled and Millhouse recovered the ball.  McClay Marshall took over the O as he had four runs, including 1 yd TD run up the middle.  On the extra point, Loda's pass was tipped by the Guilford LB but Keish kept his concentration and caught the pass.

Christian sacked the QB on 4th and long.  Following a '4 and out', East Haven's defense was back on the field to preserve the shutout.  The T-Birds 8 play drive stalled following an open field tackle by Vinny Paolillo on 4th down.

East Haven then embarked on a 10-play, time consuming drive at the end of the game.  When the Easties failed to gain the first down, North Branford took over on down with less than a minute left.  Two plays later the Easties were celebrating a 19-0 victory.

the minds of the Yellowjackets.  Millhouse ran the opening kickoff back for a 70 yd TD to tie up the game.  East Haven took the lead as Justin Keish caught the pass from Sam Loda for the extra point.  Kicker Nick Kraszewski executed a perfect on-side kickoff as Millhouse recovered the ball at mid-field.  After a few runs, East Haven's drive stalled at Madison's 35 yd line.  Madison looked to get some momentum back as they ran the ball into Easties territory.  Frank Longley then halted any further Tiger advances.  On 3rd and long, Longley stayed home at his DE position to tackle the wing back on a failed reverse play.  On 4th and long, Longley swarmed the quarterback for a sack.

Back on O, Scalesse provided a few tough inside runs and Millhouse had an electric 30 yd run to bring the ball to Madison's 15 yd line.  On 4th down, Nico Ragaini took the reverse handoff around left end for a 10 yd TD run (extra point was no good).  Madison took the kickoff to mid-field.  Madison completed a screen pass on 1st down, but Ragaini's tackle caused a fumble recovered by McClay Marshall.  East Haven ran the ball deep into Madison territory, including two key 1st down conversion runs by Millhouse and Scalesse.  Inside two minutes to play, East Haven was faced with a 4th and 8.  Loda completed a 12 yd pass to Longley over the middle for the 1st down.  The Easties then ran out the clock for the well fought victory!

Millhouse put the Easties on the board as he took a 2nd down pitch and ran around right end for a 60 yd TD run.  Marshall ran in the extra point.  The stingy D continued as Cheshire posted another 4 and out.  The O went on a long 10 play drive behind the running of Ragaini, Scalesse, and Millhouse.  The drive culminated in a 1 yd TD run by Millhouse.  Scalesse ran in the extra point.  Cheshire was looking to close out the half with a score .  A first down run gave the Rams some momentum.  Nick Spadacenta and Vin Paolillo then provided key tackles to end the drive.  East Haven took a 14-0 advantage into the half.

The second half began with Cheshire exploring their passing game with the result the same - a stalled drive by a stingy D.  McClay Marshall took a handoff up the middle for a 45 yd TD run (extra point was unsuccessful).  In the category of a 'broken record', Cheshire's offense responded with a 4 and out.  The Easties offense went on another long drive, but this time Cheshire's linebacker took the ball out of the Easties wing back's hands and ran back 70 yds for a TD (extra point was unsuccessful).  The Yellowjackets next drive took them inside Cheshire's 10 yd line until a 2nd down fumble gave the ball back to Cheshire.  The Easties closed out the game on defense as Millhouse and Sam Loda played well in the Secondary, while Scalesse and Jonathan Browne provided the tackles that spelled doom for the Cheshire running game.
